Lafarge Plasterboard ’s compound plant at Altona has been recognised by the Victorian Engineering Excellence Awards, held in Melbourne on 17 September. Kockums Bulk Systems Ltd, the consultant for the Altona compounds plant, received the Engineering Excellence Award for Industrial Development and Manufacturing at a gala evening event at Crown Towers, Melbourne.
The Awards celebrated engineering and technological brilliance in recognition of leading edge engineering projects of importance to the Victorian community. Ivan Price, Managing Director, Kockums, was delighted to win this prestigious award.
Lafarge Plasterboard appointed Kockums Bulk Systems in 2007 to manufacture stucco and plaster. Their experience and product range was well suited to providing a fast track supply of products, and the design of the plant ensured maximum space utilisation for minimum power use.
Stuart Jacquet, CEO, Lafarge Plasterboard, congratulated Ivan Price and his team for receiving the Excellence Award and for providing Lafarge Plasterboard with a very successful compounds plant with a full range of Australian manufactured products.
Hosted by ABC Radio’s Coodabeen Champions member, Mr. Ian Cover, the awards presentation evening attracted a large audience of almost 900 guests, including professional business leaders and senior engineers across a range of disciplines. Those acknowledged for their engineering excellence were selected following a rigorous judging process of 60 outstanding entries across seven categories. All awarded projects were acknowledged for their outstanding level of relevance and contribution to the community and were selected based on the commercial viability and public utility of their entry.
A free public photographic exhibition was held at the Atrium, Federation Square during Victorian Engineering Industry Week (21-25 September) as a tribute to the 60 entrants and Award recipients of the Victorian Engineering Excellence Awards 2009. Award sponsors included: Bilfinger Berger Australia, City of Melbourne, Linking Melbourne Authority, RMIT University, South East Water, State Government of Victoria, URS, Davies Collison Cave and The Age.
Kockums Bulk Systems Ltd can now proceed to the next stage and enter the Altona Compounds Plant into the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards, which will be held in the Great Hall at Parliament House in November.
