The recent growth in visualisation tools for Designers has not been limited to the building side of the industry. Engineering design teams are seeing the immediate advantages of using 3D design tools to create Structural and MEP systems that work within the Architectural and Building Design models.
By using Engineering based design software such as Revit Structure or Revit MEP, Engineers are able to design around an already existing 3D model supplied from the Architect or create a conceptual design model in 3D. The advantage gained is the ability to be able to see how the Structural and MEP systems work within the Architectural model and also how they will physically look in the building space.
With the Autodesk engineering solutions, from KarelCAD you are able to create 3D walkthroughs and perspectives that show how the design space will work and feel and also gives the client an immediate visual outlook that normally may take 20 or 30 2D drawings to explain. The use of 3D design tools also allows for less back drafting and highlights clashes between architecture, structure and services to ensure that all levels of the design can be coordinated during the drafting phase.
To take the 3D model further it can then be used to create presentation quality materials for final approvals and board level presentation by importing the 3D model into 3Ds Max Design.
