It is not just the weather that is changing, but also the political and social climate. Everyone is acutely aware of our collective water shortage. Maybe the time is right for radical new thinking. Invisible Structures believe they have at least part of the solution.
You may have missed it, but rain does still fall from time to time – usually not much and, critically, not often over catchment areas. We again need to be a clever country about this. If every domestic and commercial roof across the country became a ‘mini catchment’, every drop that did fall could be harvested for re-use in some form.
Traditional catchment and water storage relies on extended consistent rainfall to produce run off. Creating catchment areas out of the built environment would potentially harvest 95% of every drop that falls on every roof for on-site retention.
So, instead of constructing enormously expensive and disruptive reservoirs, all that energy and capital could be positively re-directed to other water storage systems. Thousands of new homes, factories, warehouses, supermarkets, public buildings and other facilities are built annually. Their combined roof areas are probably incalculable, but it would certainly be an impressive figure.
With an underground water storage system there are no detrimental effect on the environment, no rivers dammed, no farmers or communities displaced, no trees disturbed and, with Rainstore³, no loss through evaporation.
Rainstore3 is a multi-award winning, world patented stormwater management system It provides efficient and cost effective water storage on any scale, domestic or commercial. With a life expectancy of at least 70 years, Rainstore3 maximises potential site water storage, while maximising surface use and preserving aesthetics.
Essentially the matrix is enveloped in a sealed heavy-duty plastic liner and buried. Inlet/outlet connections, with filtration/pumps/access are easily incorporated. As little as 300mm of structural top backfill is then covered with a surface of choice. The tank can placed under concrete or bitumen driveways, truck parking spaces, playing fields or even under the garage slab.
Installation can be achieved in hours rather than weeks and the surface is immediately trafficable. Rainstore3 tanks can be virtually any size, from under a cubic metre to mega litres, and can be customised to meet almost any site criteria.
