In a recent statement by The Hon Mark Dreyfus QC MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Parliamentary Secretary for Industry and Innovation, the Australian Government’s home insulation safety plan will conclude on 30 June 2012.

The Gillard government recently announced that it had exceeded its target of 150,000 home inspections that have batt and foil insulations.

“The latest results show 247,837 inspections in total have been requested and completed,” Mr Dreyfus said.

“Independent assessments demonstrate that the rate of fire incidents in homes with home insulation program insulation is now lower than the rate that existed prior to HIP and continues to decline.”

The latest HIPRO inspection data from the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency states that the number of foil and non-foil safety inspections that have been carried out to date totals 46,622 and 200,215 respectively. It has also received 105,839 calls to its Safety Hotline, with the majority relating to foil insulation enquiries.

Final call for inspections
The Hon Mark Dreyfus says that anyone with concerns about insulations under the home insulation programme or has not previously had an inspection carried out can still arrange an inspection by calling the dedicated Safety Hotline. Inspection bookings can still be made up until to 30 June 2012.
