Passive House experts from around the globe will travel to Hanover, Germany for the world’s largest Passive House convention in May.

Nations all over the world are beginning to align themselves with the Passive House Standard as they come to realise that energy needs to be used in a more efficient manner.

From January 1 2012 energy efficiency standards in China were made 70% more stringent in the building sector. Only “Net zero energy buildings” will be built in South Korea and California as of 2020 and throughout Europe, all new builds will have to be constructed as “nearly zero energy buildings” by 2020.

The Passive House conference will address many of the questions builders, architects and so forth have in relation to cost-effective building and retrofitting. These include:

  • What are the key criteria for sustainable construction?
  • Is energy efficiency even the right approach?
  • How can we assess embodied energy (production energy)?
The Conference will feature an informative series of lectures and workshops along with an extensive program of events including a forum for tradespeople, and introductory courses.

The Passive House Exhibition is set to take place at the same time as the Conference. It will feature a number of exhibitors who will present their products and solutions for Passive House new builds and retrofits.

On May 2nd, before the Conference begins the Passive House Institute will run a “Passive House Basics” course. This will provide insight into Passive House practices for those those who are not so familiar with them.

The "Passive House components across the globe" workshop has been organised for May 3rd with the intent of providing manufactures of energy efficient products with the opportunity to meet potential clients from around the world.

On May 4th, a special tradespeople forum featuring short, practice-oriented presentations will provide an introduction to the practical work involved in the construction of highly energy-efficient buildings.

Guests will be led on various excursions to Passive House buildings in the Hanover region on the 6th May in order to see how the principles of Passive House design are practically applied.

These events and many more will take place during the International Passive House Conference.
