The Insulation Council of Australia and New Zealand (ICANZ) was formed in July 2004, replacing the industry association FARIMA, while extending membership to New Zealand to reflect the trend towards common building standards, closer ties in research, testing and other trans-Tasman building initiatives.
ICANZ notes that issues of future energy supply, energy efficiency, climate change and sustainability are becoming more and more important to governments and industry alike, and to this end, the Council focuses on the contribution insulation can make to address these issues, now and into the future.
ICANZ's members, Bradford Insulation and Fletcher Insulation, directly employ over 1,000 people in Australia and New Zealand, and produce approximately 70% of insulation sold locally. The two companies have invested over $500 million in manufacturing, and distribute over 1,200 insulation product lines to a wide range of industries.
On a functional level, ICANZ funds independent research and reports quantifying the value of generic insulation to Australian consumers, the environment and the economy. In addition, it regularly exchanges research with major European and American insulation industry bodies and shares relevant data with Australian industry and governments.
Further, with the recent introduction of regulations for minimum energy requirements in residential dwellings, ICANZ has identified a significant lack of knowledge of energy efficient design and insulation performance.
Providing information and education services to assist building professionals and consumers to better understand these matters will be a key focus for the Council.
