When it comes to domestic structural materials, treated plantation softwood is suitable for long term, low cost protection against wood destroying insects and fungi.

Simple to work with, structural timber delivers strength, versatility and cost savings. Australian producers, Hyne Timber , source from sustainably managed plantations and their products are greenhouse positive due to their carbon-storage abilities, which offset the minimal energy used in production.

Energy-consumption aside, rising steel prices have put the spotlight back on timber framing and Hyne Timber are responding by raising awareness of the absolute peace-of-mind afforded by treated timber over untreated for structural elements.

According to Peter Hyne, one problem that remains with the widespread use of timber in structural elements is one of protection against wood destroying insects and fungi.

From an insurance perspective, termite attack causes more damage to Australian homes each year than fire or flood. As stated in AS3660, a termite barrier system constructed in accordance with the Standard cannot prevent termite attack over time as barriers can be bridged or breached. Even a new garden bed or dog kennel abutted against the house will do this, allowing the insects to make their way into the building structure, causing thousands of dollars of damage.

Hyne’s research has shown that there is a viable need for non-toxic timber treatments to protect against insect or fungal attack in all Australian conditions.

Hyne Trueframe, Hyne Timber’s range of structural softwood framing, features an environmentally friendly alternative in a variety of strengths with minimal volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

T2 Blue, T2 Red and T3 Green are the three treated products designed for above ground structural protection across the country. T2 Blue, for termite protection south of the tropics, T2 Red for protection against the voracious species found north of Rockhampton, and T3 Green for fungal and termite protection in external above-ground applications like pergolas, verandahs and decks.

Following are the features of the T2 Blue structural softwood framing:

  • H2-F level 5mm envelope treatment
  • Grades: MGP10, MGP12, MGP15
  • Termite protection

Following are the features of the T2 Red structural softwood framing:
