WA builder recognised for recycling
WA-based project home builder Dale Alcock Homes , successful in achieving 75 percent recycling of its building waste, has been recognised in the Housing Industry Association (HIA) GreenSmart professional award.
Dale Alcock Home’s design manager Max Pirone received the national award for his management of the company’s cleaner production and eco-efficiency initiatives.
Pirone has been training Dale Alcock Homes’ staff and consultants in cleaner production and eco-efficiency initiatives including advances in passive solar design along with current waste trials. The company is an active member of the HIA’s Partnership Advancing The Housing Environment (PATHE) program.
The first WA project home builder to conduct building waste recycling trials, Dale Alcock Homes has been crushing solid building waste such as roof tiles, bricks, masonry and concrete on site. By sorting solid building waste and using on-site crushing equipment, the company has recycled 70 percent of building waste at more than 60 home building sites in Perth.
Working with local councils, the material has been used under the council crossover section of domestic driveways instead of crushed limestone.
Waste segregation on site has also been improved to reduce contamination and increase recycling opportunities to include brick straps and timber.
Dale Alcock Homes will continues its waste management trials until the end of the year as part of its ongoing program of energy, waste and environmental initiatives. The company’s use of the Termimesh anti-termite system has negated the need for the traditional use of chemicals – an initiative which has already saved almost six million litres of chemicals being pumped into the ground.
