David Gottfried, founder of LEED, gives Rainwater HOG tank his green thumbs up
David Gottfried, worldwide innovator in Green Building rating, rates Rainwater HOG from Hog Works highly for its dual green functions of harvesting and storing rainwater and using the r value of the stored water for effective thermal mass.
Says David Gottfried, interviewed by Sustainable Industries, “You can put these things vertical in your wall and it becomes passive solar.”
David Gottfried’s is using Rainwater HOGs in the green remodel of his own 1915 Bay Area Craftsman house with the aim of achieving USA’s first LEED Platinum home.
Like Australia, the USA’s green rating system is currently confined to commercial buildings, but is branching into the residential arena.
Rainwater HOGs have multiple green rating benefits, because in addition to storing rainwater, they require no footings, stack for easy transport, and can be reused without compromise and without additional componentry.
Modularity plus thermal mass plus rainwater storage makes Rainwater HOG a high scoring multi-tasker in Green Star and LEEDS rating systems.
Rainwater HOG currently features in Green Haus, an emergency concept by the University of Kansas for the green rebuilding of Greensburg. 95% of that city was decimated by Tornedo in 2007 and the mayor has vowed to build back green.
