Harris Crime Prevention Services has been appointed Security Consultants for the Eastlakes Town Centre Redevelopment project.
The redevelopment project comprises of a 2.5 hectare site, which will be developed into an integrated retail, lifestyle, commercial, residential and recreational complex. The project will include 443 units and up to 12,450m² of retail space.
Rice Daubney are the architects responsible for the design while Don Fox Planning has been appointed the Town Planning Consultants.
Harris Crime Prevention Services (HCPS) will advise the design team on incorporating whole-of-site security into the architectural design for the project to derive maximum benefit from passive security elements whilst taking into account form, function and aesthetics.
Projects can benefit in many ways from hiring specialist crime prevention consultants at the design stage.
Various state and local planning instruments require crime prevention/ security design to be provided as a seamless integration into architectural, engineering, lighting and landscaping design. Proper incorporation of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) leading up to the DA submission improves the likelihood of council acceptance of the DA’s crime prevention strategy.
Crime prevention principles incorporated in architectural design can enhance marketing and reputational outcomes, which are not only sustainable but also virtually cost nothing to maintain. Additionally, going forward, there will be cost savings from less reliance on security systems and security patrol services.
Crime prevention in design also functions as a deterrent for criminals by empowering legitimate site users to be observers of criminal activity, which allows them to report incidents.
HCPS has been providing their specialised expertise for major new developments and redevelopments over the past 14 years, offering sustainable, cost minimised and effective security. The company is constantly undertaking local and international research on best security design practices.
