Octanorm Australia celebrate 40th years of innovation

It was 40 years ago that Hans Staeger walked into a makeshift press conference room in Germany to unveil his revolutionary Octanorm exhibition system, and today Octanorm Australia announced it would celebrate this milestone with representatives from Australia’s exhibition and event industry.

To mark the 40th anniversary, Octanorm Australia has produced commemorative napkin rings for the 2008 EEAA Awards for Excellence in Melbourne.

This Australian exhibition and event industry awards, of which Octanorm Australia is a major sponsor, will be held on 2 December – just four days short of Octanorm’s anniversary.

“It’s a happy coincidence that the two dates are so close together and we are looking forward to celebrating the birth of Octanorm alongside leading members of Australia’s exhibition and event industry,” said Bruce Rayment, CEO, Octanorm Australia.

Staeger, recognising the need for reusable components for the construction of exhibition stands, began developing the innovative Octanorm system in 1967 and revealed his creation to a crowd of German journalists on 6 December, 1968.

To demonstrate the potential of his new system, Staeger actually built the press conference room in his production area using Octanorm components, later dismantling the entire construction in less than an hour to the amazement of the assembled media.

Today, Octanorm supplies its extensive product range to 78 countries on all five continents.

“The anniversary presents an opportunity to not only reflect on Octanorm’s past, but also look ahead to what we hope to achieve in the future,” said Rayment.

“Octanorm prides itself on being at the forefront of the display revolution, and what started out as a simple system in Germany 40 years ago has formed the basis for an exciting and extensive range of products for the whole world.”
