The GreenPainters Program has recently been announced a finalist in the 2012 Premier’s ClimateSmart Sustainability Awards.

A number of green business leaders attended the event, which was sponsored by the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection.

"This nomination recognises the efforts of the hundreds of Green Painters in Queensland who attended the training and implemented
sustainability into their business," noted GreenPainters trainer Daniel Wurm.

Wurm also explained that the program has reduced water usage dramatically and cut pollution levels and VOC emissions.

Furthermore, the program has cut electricity costs for hundreds of Queenslanders as it educated them about the use of heat reflective paints, which can be used to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.

Developed in 2009 by painters and trainers within the painting industry, the GreenPainters program is an initiative of the National Institute of Painting and Decorating.

Originally developed in Queensland, the program now covers every Australian state and territory, and has been adapted for the painting industry in the United States.

ThePremier’s Sustainability Awards were developed by the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection in order to recognise the achievements of Queenslanders in actively reducing carbon emissions and taking action towards the abatement of climate change.
