Granitgard is a physical termite barrier system started in 1990. Granitgard offers non toxic protection against termites. This system includes strip shielding, graded stone and Blockaid. Developed with CSIRO, the installation methods in Granitgard are tested to AS 3660.1 (2000). The Granitgard termite barrier has also been assessed by the Standards Australia, Australian Environment Labeling Association and the Building Codes Board.
Granitgard system adopts strip shielding system using PVC or aluminum to create a line in the masonry. This shielding is placed in a zone where termite activity can be detected.
Blockaid is a brush on physical termite barrier which is water based and non toxic. The rubberized polymers, bitumen and plant extracts provide durability and make it unpalatable for termites.
The Granitgard graded stone barrier system involves use of concrete slab as a termite barrier. The slabs are hard for the termites to chew, at the same time are big for the termites to move. This system is also close enough that termites can not squeeze through.
Granitgard system can be installed in all weather conditions. Sub contractors who carry out the installation provide a barrier in the perimeter of the building, penetrations of concrete slab, construction joints, step down and in under suspended floors. Protection against termites extends beyond structural components and includes kitchen and bathroom joinery, plasters and electric wiring.
