Safe, conscientious management of the fast food restaurant, KFC Northmead, has identified some OH&S issue at the back of the house. Various alternative methods were used to try to solve the issue unsuccessfully, before Global Safe Technologies was finally called upon to provide a solution for the slippery surfaces.
Local floor safety representatives attended the site, assessed the situation and discussed with management about their specific requirements. Their requirements included providing a sustainable anti-slip treatment to a large part at the back of the house area, as well as the freezer. The solution had to stand up to the normal contamination during operation and pass independent slip resistance testing. As an additional constraint, the surface preparation, product installation and the product curing time had to be very fast, so that the normal business operation would not be interrupted.
To ensure full compliance with relevant OH&S and the slip resistance standard and provide the client with a long-term sustainable solution, Safe Grip Anti-Slip Strips were proposed. Field and independent laboratory tests show that it Anti-Slip Strips achieved the highest slip resistance rating (Pendulum Class V), and have retained it over an extended period of time. This means the risk of slipping when the floor is wet will be very low not only during installation but also for the years to come.
Global Safe assembled a team of local floor safety specialists and called on its interstate representative from Victoria to complete the job. The freezer, which required anti-slip treatment, was only handed over at 7pm at night and had the normal operational temperature of minus 28 Celsius.
The team had to use all of its tricks in the bag, to heat up the surface and to prepare other areas and install the Anti-Slip Strips within the time constraints. The project was completed on agreed time and the restaurant, including the freezer, was operational at the opening on the following day.
The surface then was independently tested for slip resistance in safe environment and passed the relevant requirements. These included being tested during the day with the surface having its usual operational contaminants on the floor.
Restaurant management is satisfied with the result as since the installation of the anti-slip strips no complaint or incident was reported.
Pro-active management also signed up to Global Safe’s industry unique risk management program called The Floor Safety Maintenance Program or FSMP. This risk management program is an integral part of the floor safety solution, offered at no additional cost for the period of 2 years and provides a valuable service to clients.
