A part of the special school major renovation project required a disability standard AS/NZS 1428.4 - 2002 compliant tactile ground surface indicator solution. The construction company contacted Global Safe Technologies Australia to provide a standard compliant solution.
Global Safe Technologies Australia team attended the site and assessed the situation, installed the tactiles at the agreed time and solved the constructions company’s issue. The tactile installation was required both on timber as well as on concrete substrate.
Global Safe Technologies Australia used an installation method, which does not require any bonding agent. This solution works with a low failure rate and also ensures a cost efficient replacement of the tactiles in future. The reason for this is that no bonding agent is employed. The worn tactiles can be removed and the new tactiles can be installed without any re-drilling or bonding agent removal. A good bonding agent provides a good solution at the installation time and bonds strongly to the substrate. When the tactile is removed, the bonding agent may tear off pieces from the substrate, causing damage to it. On an expensive substrate like marble, granite, terrazzo, the substrate repair/replacement could exceed the cost of the tactile installation.
