The Westfield shopping centre in Sydney’s Northern suburbs had tactile ground surface indicators installed a couple of years ago.
Management was concerned about the tactiles, as they had been installed with some different types, they had become slippery, causing alarm as they were posing a slip and fall risk, some were missing and the unsightly nature of the area meant they needed to solve all issues.
As they were, the tactiles were nullifying the original reason they were installed in the first place, assisting the visually impaired in compliance with the relevant AS/ NZS 1428-4 2002 disability standard.
After talking to Global Safe Technologies Australia , the management decided to get the existing tactiles removed and replaced with the properly installed – no glue or epoxy is required – tactile ground surface indicators.
The Austact product’s proven sustainability and use of environmentally friendly and recyclable materials along with Global Safe Technologies’ installation expertise also contributed to the decision.
The removal and installation was done in the evening and after hours causing absolute minimum inconvenience to the shopping centre clients.
After the job had been completed, the management expressed its satisfaction with not only with the quality of the job, but also the professionalism, cleanliness and attitude of the Global Safe Technologies staff.
The shopping centre is also taking up the Floor Safety Maintenance Programme (FSMP), which is also offered to them as part of the solution, to ensure that the solution provided will remain intact now and in the future.
