THE Australian Maritime Complex in Henderson, Western Australia, with its new southern harbour, common user facility and fabrication precinct, recently opened for business.
In this $70 million phase of the $127 million project, professional services company, GHD , provided civil and marine engineering design services which encompassed harbour and channel dredging, construction of sea walls, land reclamation, site development, roads infrastructure and the construction of a 15,000t loadout/service wharf and a 3,000t loadout wharf.
“The 15,000t wharf can accommodate 300m-long vessels and the heaviest load-outs in the southern hemisphere,” says GHD project manager Michael Ryan.
This precinct has the capacity to handle some of Australia’s largest fabrication projects and has already attracted interest from the Australian and US Defence forces and major mining, oil and gas consortia.
A $25 million fabrication facility has already been constructed on site.
