Lumi rainwater tank, from Full Tank was designed for inner urban residential and commercial settings where space is at a premium. A garden lighting feature, a sculpture – through its aesthetic appeal and timely reinterpretation of a rural Australian icon (the corrugated iron water tank), Lumi rainwater tank has successfully captured the imagination of Australian city dwellers.
Lumi rainwater tank is the 2006 winner of the Premier’s Design Awards/ City of Melbourne Sustainability Design Award and has been published in magazines such as Vogue Living, Wallpaper, SDQ, and Monument. The sustained presence of Lumi rainwater tank in the media has undoubtedly raised the profile of water conservation by establishing the rainwater tank as a desirable architectural fixture.
Lumi rainwater tank is manufactured in Victoria using a generic polyethylene inner water holding tank and a Plexiglas (German acrylic) outer casing. Plexiglas is used because of its ability to last in Australian conditions – it comes with a 10 year guarantee on its superior rigidity, strength, colour fastness and UV resistance and is manufactured to European greenhouse gas emission standards. Lumi rainwater tank is designed for minimum wastage of materials and uses only fully recyclable materials.
Lumi is lit with low energy consumption LEDs that have a life span of up to 50,000 hours and do not require bulb replacements. Lumi rainwater tank can be connected to a pump to divert rainwater into the house for toilet flushing (with mains backup for when the tank is empty), potentially cutting household water consumption by 20%.
