Fire Retardant Technologies rolls out Firetard120 for fire prevention
In October 06 Fire Retardant Technologies was approached by an owner builder who was planning to build a cedar clad home at Yarrawonga near Mudgee.
The problem the owner had was that his dream home was in a category 2 bush fire area.
After discussing the problem with Fire Retardant Technologies, it suggested that the builder pass on its website details to the relevant authorities and get their feed back.
Within a few weeks the builder was back with good news, the powers to be were very impressed as they were unaware of any clear timber treatment that could be used.
A quote was sought and provided and a time was set to carry out an application on the house and surrounding decks.
Fire Retardant Technologies has developed a product called Firetard120. Firetard120 is an innovative chemical breakthrough in fire prevention.
Firetard120 has been the outcome of years of extensive research and testing in an Australian environment that is one of harshest.
Firetard120 is a single component fire retardant treatment for timber that has many applications.
Firetard120 inhibits the spread of fire in its initial stages by isolating the combustible materials from the flames.
Firetard120 is a perfect choice for cedar clad homes, windows and doors in fact all raw timbers to be used in category1- 3 bushfire areas as it dries clear.
Firetard120 can be overcoated with any water based or white spirit based solvent paint or stain.
Health issues are kept to a minimum as it is water based non toxic treatment but the applicators are recommended to wear gloves and a mask if applying in confined areas.
Fire Retardant Technologies is at the moment working with timber treatment companies to provide the market with an LOSP pre primed pine that is Firetard120 treated currently these samples are in test at the CSIRO.
Also Fire Retardant Technologies is working to provide a combination CCA/ Firetard120 treated pine that has passed the ASTM D2898 Method B as specified by Clause1.5.6 of AS3959 for weathering.
Currently Firetard120 has been tested by the CSIRO and has passed the AS/NZS 3837 performance specification as a suitable fire retardant treatment for timber as specified by clause1.5.6 of AS3959.
