Tapware for water conservation

Specialist commercial and industrial tapware manufacturer Enware has welcomed mandatory new WELS water conservation and labelling laws applying from July 1 - and is showcasing products that meet and exceed their requirements.

WELS applies to a vast array of commercial, industrial and domestic appliances, including washing machines, dishwashers, toilet suites, showers, taps, urinal suites and food service tapware.

All will be required to be rated and labelled. Products unable to comply will receive a zero star (warning) rating and be labelled accordingly.

“Some products unable to comply may no longer be able to be supplied to the marketplace at all,” says Enware Managing Director Paul Degnan, whose company has been producing specialist commercial and industrial tapware since 1939. WELS-compliant ranges being developed and introduced by Enware include:

· Pre-rinse assemblies used widely in commercial food applications, including cafes, restaurants, hotels, clubs and hospitals. Enware is developing a range of water-efficient rinse guns for food service applications.

· Tapware with outstanding water efficiency ratings and options to suit a wide range of performance requirements. These extend from 6 Star rated tapware down to 2 Star. WELS-compliant tapware and showers are based on proven core pressure compensating, flow control technologies proven in Enware’s Australian and international markets since 1988.

· Lever Action tapware for healthcare and food preparation areas, where hand cross-contamination needs to be minimised. New hands-free tapware for hygiene-critical areas includes types activated by foot, knee and electronic sensor.

· Automatic shut-off options, ideal for frequently used washrooms, including:

- Stylish sensor-activated tapware that provides water on demand;

- Time flow tapware activated by button or lever to flow for a nominated time;

- Spring action, which turns the tap off as soon as the handle is released.

· WELS-approved showerheads. These are particularly useful in large buildings like hospitals or hotels, and where multiple showers are used, such as in schools and at sporting facilities.

“The huge benefit of WELS’ level playing field will be that, finally, product specifiers and users will have clear signposts to the efficiency and subsequent Australian Standards compliance of the products they install. Inferior performance will have no place to hide,” Mr Degnan says.
