The Gippsland Water Factory is an innovative wastewater treatment and recycling system, located in Maryvale, Victoria, which is designed to treat 35 million litres of wastewater daily from 15,000 homes in the Gippsland region.
Completed in mid 2009 by Transfield Services, this facility produces 15 million litres of high quality recycled water per day, to be sold to local industry.
Designed by Senior Design Architect Mike Pearce of DesignInc Melbourne, the curved shell shaped Vortex Centre is located within the Gippsland Water Factory. Via interactive displays, visitors to the Vortex Centre are shown how recycled water is produced through the treatment process while learning how water is managed in the Gippsland region.
It was important for the 1200m2 shell, which starts as a curved metal wall and rises to become a roof, to comply with the energy efficiency requirement of Section J of the BCA, and achieve a Thermal Rating of R 3.2.
Envirospray 300 from Enviro Acoustics was installed to satisfy the thermal criteria, while offering a high level of reverberation control to the internal spaces, excellent rain noise attenuation and a smart “Off White” visual appearance. Envirospray 300 was applied under very demanding conditions (including the deadly Victoria bush fires of 2009) by Enviro Acoustics.
Envirospray 300 contains 80% recycled materials, has zero ODP and the lowest embodied energy of any thermal insulation.
