DesktopSMS available from Empower Messaging
In 2005, Australians sent 6.6 billion SMS messages (source: Gartner). In 2007, the figure is expected to top 7.2billion messages. The vast majority of these are private messages, but SMS is rapidly gaining acceptance as a valid business tool.
The main driver for business usage of SMS is cost. Even at the standard retail rate of 25c, a SMS is significantly cheaper than a voice call, especially if that call is to a mobile phone.
The main inhibitor to business take-up has been ease of use. It is not easy to type a message on a small mobile phone keypad, and it is not professional looking to resort to the truncated shorthand of SMS (e.g. c u l8r, instead of, see you later) just because it is too hard to type out properly. It is also not practical to re-type the message if one wants to send the same message to multiple recipients.
DesktopSMS is now available from Empower Messaging , enabling business users to send SMS messages from the browser on their PC, thereby making typing the message much easier. The same message can be sent to multiple mobile phones, without re-keying the message and standard messages can be stored as templates for later re-use.
The DesktopSMS application is free to use and customers simply need to pre-purchase Message Packs. Message Packs range in size from 100 message credits of up to 10,000 message credits. As such, there is significant potential for businesses to save on their telecommunications costs.
