Disabled access for grocery supplier’s headquarters
Australian Disabled Access Consultants was instructed by the Valad Property Group to prepare a development application for Metcash Pty Ltd (also known as Metfoods Pty Ltd) an international retail food and grocery supplier. The plan was to relocate its grocery supplier’s research and development division from its Silverwater headquarters to Macquarie Park, New South Wales, as part of its business expansion program.
Australian Disabled Access Consultants successfully negotiated approval to the development application that included providing disabled access within the offices, and around the building and the car parking facilities in terms of: continuous paths of travel into the building and within the car parking area at the front of the building’s access doorway; building entry; doorway widths and corridor widths; toilet facilities; floor-ceiling heights along all movement pathways; kitchen design layout and furniture fit-out.
Australian Disabled Access Consultants applauds and congratulates Ryde City Council for:
1. The expeditious approval within seven days of the lodgement date,
2. The helpful staff services,
3. The active disabled access strategies demonstrated by this expedited development consent,
4. The support of a local business’s voluntary provision of disabled access within an old industrial building to improve access and employment opportunities within the Macquarie Park Employment Precinct.
The premises have been occupied and the disabled access facilities proved successful.
The Principal Consultant of Australian Disabled Access Consultants said that their disabled access assessment report for the development application ensured compliance with:
a) The guiding principles of the Disabilities Discrimination Act,
b) Ryde City Council’s built environment disabled access design guidelines for commercial development within the Macquarie Park Employment Precinct, and
c) Australian Standards built environment disabled access design guidelines.
