EcoNova’s water recycling systems and washdown facility at Meridien Marinas
Horizon Shores is set to be the half billion dollar jewel in the crown for Meridien Marinas. Located on the northern reaches of the Gold Coast in Queensland, this 93 hectare precinct is set to be transformed into a $500million marina and resort community.
The multi stage project due for completion in 2015 will result in a 1350 berth marina, dry berth storage for over 1000 vessels, a marine showroom precinct, new resort-hotel, shopping village and a 15ha marine industries area.
Stage one of the project incorporated facilities for 100 new marina berths, a large marine wash down area, and 6000 square metres of industrial space, and infrastructure to service this and future facilities.
Due to the remote location of Horizon Shores, no Council water or sewerage connection was available. To develop on the site, Meridien Marinas needed to plan for its own water and waste infrastructure, and ensure the entire development was environmentally responsible.
The Meridian Marinas philosophy of ecologically sensitive development fitted this ethos ideally, as did the partnership with EcoNova whose eco-friendly focus and high quality water solutions won the Meridien Business.
"The project between Meridien and EcoNova has been an ideal marriage of sustainability and technology," reports Joe Gorman, Project Manager for Meridien Marinas.
"Both companies had the same goals, which are important when working towards the best solutions for our needs."
EcoNova was appointed for the Horizon Shores Project to provide two water projects. The first is a 54kL/day marine washdown facility located within the marina area.
Particular attention was given to the design of the plant, taking into consideration the sensitive ecosystem in which the development sits.
EcoNova designed an efficient water recycling process, which would safely remove oil, chemicals, and bacteria from the water and recycle for re-use within the facility.
The NovaUltra filtration plant installed is capable of filtering 4500L per hour and will ensure 80% of the water used will be recycled.
The second larger EcoNova plant is a 240kl/day sewage treatment plant, which through their NovaPro recycling system will provide a reticulated water supply for irrigation and internal use for toilet flushing within the commercial and retail sector.
This plant is located 2km from the marina. "When developing in an isolated location" says Joe Gorman, "good infrastructure is essential and we had the confidence in both EcoNova's technology and the company's desire to partner with us over the long term."
