The Dyson technology company has this year been honoured with four red dot awards for product design. Prizes were awarded for high design quality in the DC22 and DC23 vacuum cleaners and the Dyson Airblade ABO1 hand dryer. The DC24 Ball vacuum cleaner even won the red dot "best of the best" award for highest design quality.
The red dot design award is one of the world's largest design competitions. It is an internationally recognised competition and its seal of approval for good design is highly regarded in the sector. The jury assesses submitted products by various criteria, e.g. innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, symbolic and emotional content and a product's self-explanatory aspect.
The Dyson Airblade hand dryer combines design and function. The unconventional design catches the eye and it dries hands completely in just ten seconds. Compared with other conventional hand driers that work with hot air, the Dyson Airblade hand dryer uses up to 80% less energy.
The digital motor of the Dyson Airblade hand dryer generates a current of air that flows at around 644 kilometres per hour. The unheated air flows through a gap that is 0.3 millimetres wide, and the current works like an invisible windscreen wiper which wipes the water from the hands leaving them totally dry. The gap has been ergonomically formed to ensure that the air reaches all over the back of the hand and between the fingers. The HEPA filter removes over 99.9% of bacteria from the air before it is blown on to the hands.
The Dyson DC24 Ball combines the highest design quality with a unique way of working. The new Dyson DC24 sits on a ball and can be turned with ease. Dyson engineers have replaced wheels with a ball to give DC24 greater manoeuvrability. The motor sits inside the ball, making it lighter in hand and even easier to steer. With a turn of the wrist DC24 responds by swivelling its head to nip around obstacles like furniture, children and pets around the home. DC24 compresses by one-third of its height when it’s not in use for easy storage. Its motorised brush-bar captures even ground-in dirt and pet hair, so it has the all-round cleaning performance of a full-size Dyson. And as on all Dyson vacuum cleaners, the cleaning system doesn't depend on dust bags. Instead, powerful centrifugal forces separate fine dust and dirt from the air. That is why a Dyson never loses suction. With a motor that delivers just 650 watts and no burdening of the environment with bags, the new DC24 is an energy-saving and environmental-friendly appliance.
The DC23 sits on stairs and has a telescopic reach wraparound wand for easy cleaning and storage. It has a trigger bin-emptying system. This means with the press of a button, all the dust and dirt can be emptied directly into the bin. The DC23 uses the most advanced Dyson cyclone technology to capture more microscopic dust than any other cyclone. Dyson engineers have taken this technology one stage further and developed core separator technology to capture even more microscopic dirt extracting particles as small as mould and bacteria.
The DC22 range is the next generation of Dyson vacuum cleaners.
