Clark sink provides food for thought
Dorf Clark has designed a sink intended to attract avid cooks and food-lovers who, the company believes, have not been properly considered by sink manufacturers to date.
The company found that surprisingly, when a consumer chooses a kitchen, sink their specific way of living is often the one factor not considered.
A consumer’s main consideration is that the sink be as space efficient as possible in order to maximise valuable bench space. Big bowls and drainers that are easy to clean are also must haves, while the look of the sink, how it fits with the overall style of the kitchen, and price are also important factors. But when a sink was designed with a specific lifestyle in mind, Dorf Clark found that consumers respond very positively when these differences are highlighted.
Clark set out to design its new Gourmet sink which is tailored to suit the needs of avid cooks and entertainers, yet also designed to fit a range of kitchen styles. To ensure ready market acceptance, kitchen designers and consumers were invited to review and refine the new design.
Gourmet was tested against seven other sink designs and came out on top as the overwhelming favourite. More than 60 per cent of the 200 respondents surveyed selected the Gourmet among their top three sink choices. The following highlights some of the key research findings:
? The balanced design of the Gourmet sink appealed to everyone, particularly its rounded ends.
? The main bowl was described as large, deep, and wide with its curved sides.
? The shape and design of drainage area was considered stylish and functional, while reversed, well spaced drainer ribs streamlined this sink and made it easy to clean.
? Overall, Gourmet fully utilised the available sink space with plenty of room for washing up and a good even drying surface.
The Gourmet sink also includes a range of features tailored to cooks and entertainers such as integration of a full-sized chopping board into the main bowl and a colander that fits compactly into the second bowl.
Gourmet is available in one length (1150mm), has a main bowl depth of 225mm and second bowl depth of 165mm. It is also available in left or right hand bowl configurations and with or without taphole.
With most consumers not recognising the design differences between sinks, highlighting them provided food for thought, with most indicating they would think more about choosing a sink suited to the way they live.
