Ornamental uniform native flowers from Diversity Plant Propagation
Pennisetum Purple lea, available from Diversity Plant Propagation , is a purple coloured flowering Pennisetum alopecuroides flowering from February to April/May.
Unlike common Pennisetum alopecuroides, which have green/cream/purple and everything in between coloured flowers, Purple Lea always has a more uniform purple seed head.
Mature size is 1 to 1.5m in height. Purple Lea has a much higher degree of drought tolerance if planted in mulched garden beds.
To maintain a highly ornamental appearance, it will benefit from watering in extreme weather conditions. Pennisetum Purple lea is ideal for ornamental gardens, golf courses, and for around residential and commercial buildings. The plant should be trimmed back at the end of winter.
