Following the success of the inaugural Akira Isogawa rug collection presented by Designer Rugs in 2005, the two will once again collaborate on a brand new collection for 2008.
The Akira collection became a catalyst to further designer collaborations, most notably Dinosaur Designs in 2006 and Cloth by Julie Patterson in 2007.
Both the Dinosaur Designs and Cloth rug collections embraced bold patterns and combinations of bright and muted colours that delivered plenty of pop.
The inaugural Akira collection, however, represented a more poetic interpretation where subtle references to Japanese motifs were whimsically applied, and the colour palette embraced a more muted or subtle direction.
Developing along this same path, the Akira rug collection for 2008 likewise reflects Akira’s delicate signature, epitomised by contemporary plays on traditional Japanese icons, patterns and colour ways.
Six new designs make up the Akira 2008 rug collection for Designer Rugs.
Each design features 100% New Zealand Wool, some in combination with viscose or pure silk which add a subtle textural highlight. Colour combinations such as cherry and stone, turquoise and charcoal, and chartreuse and eggshell typify the collection.
With each standard rug measuring 2m by 3m, the 2008 Akira Designer Rugs collection will be available from December 2007 in Designer Rugs showrooms nationally.
