What makes a great retail outlet – the stock, the service or the store itself? Those who recognise the importance of the third factor have been rewarded for their design excellence in the short list for the coveted Retail Interior Design Award as part of the prestigious 2005 Interior Design Awards.
A partnership event of the Design Institute of Australia , and Artichoke Magazine, the annual Awards champion the outstanding commercial and residential interior design by Australian designers.
Australian retailers have recognised that it takes more than great stock and great service to complete a shopping experience, and more often than not, it is what the store looks like that will entice a customer to enter.
The short list for the Retail Interior Design Category was compiled from 49 entries Australia-wide, covering the entire gamut of retail outlets, from clothing stores to orthodontic clinics to car showrooms.
From the short list, finalists, an overall Retail Interior Design Winner, and an overall Interior Design Excellence & Innovation Winner (chosen from the winners of each primary category) will be announced at the Interior Design Awards Gala Presentation Dinner on Friday, 22 April 2005 in the Great Hall, National Gallery of Victoria.
Those responsible for the announcements are from a judging panel comprised of Australia’s most renowned commercial/residential interior designers and architects: Christopher Hansson (INARC Architecture, VIC); Madeline Lester (MLDM, NSW); Stephen Varady (Stephen Varady Architecture, NSW); and Kathleen Kusinski (Marshall Kusinski, WA).
In addition to the Retail Interior Design category, awards will be given for another nine categories, which include:
1. Hospitality Interior Design
2. Residential Interior Design
3. Corporate Interior Design
4. Public/Institutional Interior Design
5. Colour in Commercial Interior Design (sponsored by Dulux Duspec)
