Diesel generator set powered by QSX15 series engine from Cummins Power Generation
The new Cummins Power Generation (CPG) diesel generator (genset) powered by QSX15 series performs better than others within its class. Providing optimum performance, reliability and versatility for stationary standby, prime power and continuous duty applications, the QSX15 meets improved emission standards, has good fuel consumption efficiency and features the new CPG PowerCommand Control.
The QSX15 platform comes in two models each for the 50Hz (500kVA and 550kVA) and 60Hz (450kW and 500kW) frequencies to cater to different electrical supply requirements in the region.
Staying ahead of environmental requirements
The genset powered by QSX15 meets advance international genset specification design for improved and lowered emission standards, specifically the European Union (EU) Stage II for 50Hz and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier- 2 for 60Hz.
According to Don Puar, Director, CPG Asia Pacific, Cummins Power Generation have introduced diesel engines that comply with EU Stage IIIA and Stage II, and EPA Tier-2 and Tier-3 requirements. He also says that they continuously aim to stay ahead of regulatory deadlines and produce cleaner, quieter and more efficient diesel-powered generators.
Anderson Lim, Manager for Product Planning and Marketing, CPG, added: “For the genset powered by QSX15, we have managed to do so while maintaining the same power output! The new robust design also includes additional environmental protection measures with the base frame capable of 110% fluid retention.”
An efficient genset
Suitable for both standby and prime applications in any industry, the QSX15 platform comes with a 50°C ambient cooling package making it ideal for all operating ambient conditions. The high base fuel tank has a capacity of 900 litres, allowing it to operate for more than eight hours without top-up.
The QSX15 engine is only 1,370kg and yet it can produce 500KWm and 563KWm for the 50Hz and 60Hz versions respectively. Its power-to-weight ratios are significantly higher than any other competitive brands.
At only 15 litres in displacement, it is also smaller in physical size and is space efficient. Coupled with lowered noise level (79dBA at 1 metre at 75% load for the enclosed model), customers can expect better flexibility in how and where to locate the genset.
Enhanced control makes a difference
The latest generation of PowerCommand Genset Controls are being introduced in the genset powered by QSX15. The new PowerCommand 2.2 Control replaces the current PCC2100 Control.
The integrated microprocessor-based genset control system features remote start/stop, precise frequency and voltage regulation, alarm and status message display, AmpSentry protection, output metering and autoshutdown. The new PowerCommand 3.3 Control can be added as an optional control and replaces the current PCC3201 Control.
It is a fully-featured paralleling genset control system, offering customers the flexibility to operate a few gensets at the same time and manage higher load consumption when necessary.
Both PowerCommand 2.2 and 3.3 come with a new, advanced, touchsensitive pushbutton display and a standard display with a larger screen size for easier customer use. They captured CPG’s design philosophy to be interchangeable (i.e. can be easily upgraded), interoperable (i.e. can be easily interfaced with other equipment and share data) and internet-able (i.e. can be linked to the internet so that vital parameters can be easily accessed).
Anderson Lim commented: “This is part of CPG’s strategy to offer superior PowerCommand control technology across the product line. In the new series of controls, there is only one common engine specification and there are common connectors for ease of changing from non-paralleling to paralleling control.”
