Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia has published a new book on concrete architecture in Australia by award-winning architecture writer and critic Joe Rollo.
‘Concrete Poetry’ celebrates the power and grace of concrete in architecture through 36 concrete buildings and structures created from the mid-1950s to the present by leading architects including Grounds Romberg & Boyd, Harry Seidler, James Birrell, Denton Corker Marshall, Graeme Gunn, Hugh Buhrich, Jorn Utzon, Glenn Murcutt with Wendy Lewin and Reg Lark, Anthony Brand, Wood Marsh, Alex Popov, Enrico Taglietti, Nonda Katzalidis and Donovan Hill. The book is lavishly illustrated with black and white and colour photographs by leading photographers such as Max Dupain, David Moore and John Gollings.
It includes an essay on concrete by Cecil Balmond, a visionary engineer and author whose outside-the-square exploration of form has led to striking collaborations with luminaries such as Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Liebeskind, Arata Isozaki and Toyo Ito.
