For 36 years, Cass Brothers have fitted or rejuvenated countless thousands of the Harbour City’s bathrooms. Starting as a small plumbing supply business in Petersham by brothers Stan and Nick Cass in 1972, this little hardware shop has grown to be one of the well-known designer bathroom supply houses in the country.
In 1983 son Ross Cass joined the business just as bathroom design started to change and emerge in Australia.
“Before this time bathroom design was unadventurous and limited in this country, but in the 80’s there were a few of us in the industry who fell in love with the exciting products and concepts coming out of Europe,” said Ross Cass.
“I knew there was so much more for our company to explore and working with a few of the more innovative importers at the time we all took the gamble to stock some really ground-breaking designs. When presenting this to some of Sydney’s more adventurous architects, interior designers, builders and plumbers, it just took off!”
Company Director since 1997, Ross Cass has expanded the Cass Brothers operation to employ 45 staff across three flagship stores. The Petersham location still supplies plumbing hardware and also incorporates a big showroom over an impressive 1,000 square metres, with the Cremorne and Waverley stores renowned in the industry as some of the well-known bathroom designer showrooms.
“Inevitably in a town like Sydney, we have had our fair share of celebrities as customers. Toni Collette springs to mind, Don Lane, Hugo Weaving, the Umbilical Brothers, Jackie-O as well as Sydney Swans’ Michael O’Loughlin – to name only a few. But everybody likes a beautiful, showpiece bathroom nowadays, not just the bigger names. The Aussie perception of the bathroom has certainly evolved during our time.”

Since the team introduced Hansa tapware more than 10 years ago, the company has strived to expand the brand and the perception of Cass Brothers not only as suppliers of designer bathroom products and accessories, but providers of knowledge on anything to do with bathware.
“A bathroom renovation is extremely technical and you need great staff to efficiently guide people through the whole process from bathroom style and design decisions to fit their plumbing layout. Ask any plumber about the amount of times a client has selected product that won’t fit their plumbing requirements. We pride ourselves with our ability to assist people with selecting the right product for their bathroom interior.”
