Shadowclad by Carter Holt Harvey was implemented in the design of the recently unveiled UWS Village at the University of Western Sydney in Parramatta. Designed by Kerry + Lindsay Clare, from leading firm Architectus, the project follows their environmental policy, and is built using environmentally sustainable materials.
This eco-friendly building considers a range of environmental factors. It features cross ventilation to each bedroom and natural daylighting to all spaces, insulated walls and roofs, reverse masonry veneer walls, solar hot water, grey water reuse for the central laundry, orientation and sunshading. The sunshading is provided by Shadowclad fins affixed to the third floor. The cladding helps to reduce the effect of glare and heat from the sun. It is stained with an environmentally friendly, protective paint in a range of colours.
Shadowclad is made from 100% legally harvested, plantation grown Radiata pine. It is available in 1200mm wide sheets, in lengths of 2440, 2745 and 3050mm. Each sheet features a ship lap weathergroove joint on the long edge.
Shadowclad has a rough surface, and can be ordered with vertical grooves or a textured finish. It is also treated to protect it from rot and insect infestation.
