Reddacliffe Place and the Queen Street Mall will become a public art exhibition of 100 decorated toilet pans on Wednesday 19th November for World Toilet Day. Designed by local creative industries and design firms, the toilet pans will create awareness of World Toilet Day.
Celebrating the humble but vitally important toilet and highlighting the global sanitation crisis, the day will aim to break taboos, provoking discussions of toilets and sanitation in everyday conversations.
The day is organised by local members of not-for-profit organisation Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB) and supported by marketing and branding company Uncompromise, the International Water Centre, in conjunction with leading Australian toilet manufacturer Caroma. The display will aim to raise awareness that 2.6 billion of the world’s population lack access to a sustainable, hygienic toilet facility and highlight the impact of this situation on young women.
Following the display, the designed toilet pans will be auctioned on eBay, with all proceeds raised donated towards funding sanitation projects in disadvantaged communities, with the money going to the World Toilet Organisation and Water Aid Australia.
