CASF Australia congratulates Kerry Fyfe of FYFE Design on being the winner of the Edition 4, Corian Design Awards 2007 - commercial category. Kerry created the reception area of Walker Corporation – a new office fit out on level 50 of the Governor Philip Tower in Sydney.
On designing this project Kerry says “The large windows to the exterior façade of the building created a focal point beyond the interiors. The architecture needed to generate a connection between the interior spaces and the expansive views to the harbour, sky and gardens.”
Dynamic elements were designed to provide a sculptural expression that allowed a connection between the inside and outside. Corian was used for the reception desk and reception seating, kitchen benchtops and sculpted walls in glacier white.
“Corian was the natural choice of material to create such sculptural forms. The beauty of the material serves to enhance the form.” says winner Kerry.
Corian was the obvious choice as the material enhances the dynamic forms used in the interiors. The soft appearance and smooth joining characteristics enabled the designer to create forms that appear to be sculpted rather than built. The functionality and resilience to wear of the product also added to it being the best material for the project.
"My architecture is a dynamic element, designed to provide extruded and sculptural expressions that allow a connection with their surrounds. The beauty of Corian as a material serves to enhance these forms.” says Kerry.
The Corian Design Awards 2007 have proved to be very successful. The Corian Design Awards will be coming back in 2008.
