CASE has released its long-awaited mini excavator line in Australia, and early response from dealers suggests that the biggest problem will be getting sufficient numbers from the factory in Japan.
As expected, given the global ties of Case, New Holland and Kobelco, there are strong similarities in appearance in the mini excavator ranges of the three brands, though Case is quick to point out that there are significant distinguishing points.
The Case range is offered as a zero tail swing product ready to work in most applications, with standard features that are options on some other brands. Bi-directional auxiliary hydraulics are factory-fitted, as is a ROPS/FOPS cab and backfill blade. A centre swing boom design allows the machines to dig alongside obstacles. All machines have two-speed travel, and this is automatic on the largest three models. Pilot-operated joystick controls make for easy operation, and there is a choice of select pattern. On all but the CX-14, there is a one-touch engine deceleration button for improved economy and lower emissions. Short pitch rubber tracks provide smooth, quiet travel.
Immediately apparent is the strength of the booms, with robust fabricated box section arms on all but the smallest model, the CX14. The CX14 is unique in the range, in having an undercarriage that widens from 890mm (for travel) to 1190mm for stability when digging.
