With a global network spanning offices in more than 40 countries and operational outposts in an additional 80, Burkert Fluid Control Systems is an established global organisation with more than 30 years of experience in Australian and New Zealand markets.
Insertion and full bore magflow meters are excellent choices for measuring more demanding processes.
Full bore magflow meters are more commonly used while insertion magflow meters find use in many applications as better alternatives offering cost, commissioning and maintenance efficiencies.
There are four questions that determine whether an insertion magflow meter is better suited for an application over a full bore magflow meter. If the answer to each of these questions is ‘yes,’ then an insertion-type magflow meter is the better choice.
- Is the flow tube sized between 6mm and 400mm?
- Is accuracy of ±2% suitable?
- Will turndown of 1:50 suit the process?
- Is the fluid conductivity greater than 20µs/cm?
Insertion magflow meters are used in applications where the extreme accuracy of full bore magflow meters is unnecessary and the 2% accuracy of the insertion magflow is more than sufficient.
Typical applications include:
- Well and river water pump monitoring in irrigation
- Farming or irrigation water use monitoring
- Water use monitoring in process industry applications
- Flocculent dosing
- Water balancing at Water Treatment Plants
- Intake water monitoring at Water Treatment Plants
- Discharge water monitoring
Burkert’s Type 8045 model of insertion magflow meters offers significant benefits with hardware savings alone totalling up to 75% on larger-sized pipes. Additionally, commissioning and servicing benefits deliver greater savings in the service lifetime.
Key advantages of the Type 8045 insertion magflow meters include:
- Same instrument and electronics all the time
- Simple installation with no flanges
- Weld on fitting or tapping band through the pipe
- Low weight; no support or brackets required
- Simple removal for inspection and cleaning
- Highly reliable and robust with minimal maintenance needs
- May be used with all types of piping including stainless steel, cement-lined or plastic
Type 8045 insertion magflow meters cater to a wide range of process media and are suitable for media from 15°C to 110°C, and up to 16 bar pressure.
Delivering IP65 protection class, the 8045 insertion magflow meter offers superior security with a lockable self-enclosure for field applications.
Other functional benefits include 4 - 20mA, 2 x Relay and transistor (pulse) outputs with data logging, batch control and totalising operations.
Three buttons on the fascia are used for programming with readout via graphic display, which is clearly visible through the self-enclosure.
Burkert supplies full bore as well as insertion magflow meters and has trained engineers available to assist with product specification for specific applications.
Regional Coach Chris Hoey pointed out that having both technologies put Burkert in the position of being able to offer advice without bias.
