Among the winners at the 2009 Building Designers Association of Victoria (BDAV) Awards, was the Cremorne Street Tenancy office fitout, which won the Building Design of the Year Award, for displaying a ‘functional but fun blend of work and public space.’
Other entries included an environmentally-friendly, eight-star home in Birregurra, a refurbished historic hotel in Melbourne’s CBD and a new home at Blairgowrie.
BDAV Executive Officer, Mr Brian Morison, said that the awards were an opportunity to showcase the scope and variety of the skills of today’s building designers.
“Every building project is unique and has its own complexities. It is the task of the building designer to understand the complexities and maximise the possibilities of good design for clients,” he said.
Mr Morison said the award categories ranged from residential and commercial design applications to alterations and additions projects and heritage conservation.
The Birregurra Sustainable Home, an 8-star rated design, also won Best Energy Efficient Design and Best Environmentally Sustainable Design, demonstrating the latest energy efficiency measures while maintaining a sophisticated aesthetic.
