The winners of the Building Designers Association of Aust ralia (BDAA0 2003 national design awards have been announced with Stephen Kidd of Stephen Kidd Design taking out the top accolade, the national design excellence award.
Kidd’s project, Salty Bits, also took out the residential buildings over 400sq m category and the best residential interior. Located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, the house captures the essence of beachside living, opening up to the outdoors to take advantage of spectacular views. In an upper level, windows have been fitted with gas struts, keeping them open, and creating an indoor/outdoor relationship without adding a deck or balcony.
Other winners are: residential buildings up to 200sq m, Lawson Design; residential buildings 201sq m to 300sq m, David Frazer Design; residential buildings 301sq m to 400sq m, Chris Vandyke Design; residential alterations and additions less than $75,000, Draftlink; residential alterations and additions over $75,000, Jeff Lee and Associates; multi-residential - duplex, Peter Fryer Design; multi-residential up to six dwellings, Spectra Building Designers; multi-residential over six dwellings, Innovative Building Design; multi-residential - medium or high rise, Adrian Pooley & Associates; commercial buildings, Meyer Shircore & Associates; industrial building, Meyer Shircore & Associates; non-residential alterations and additions, Bruce Roach Design; public buildings, Moonbeam Design; best commercial interior, Bruce Roach Design; special projects, Azimuth Building Designers.
