Greenhouse by Joost is the restaurant where beer bottles and jars are cut-down and used as tumblers, off-cuts of plywood become plates and the unique recycled plastic material transforms a hectic kitchen into a vivid, colourful space. Innovator and creator of Greenhouse, Joost Bakker, is a champion of sustainable building practices that recycle, reduce waste and reduce harm. It is no surprise that the bright orange, recycled and recyclable Plaspanel is right at home in the pop-up restaurant.
The fourth Greenhouse by Joost was temporarily constructed for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and combines ecology, food, art, and building design, andJoost, who has been a long time advocate of Plaspanel, used the recycled panelling to create a dramatic, splashback in the contemporary restaurant.
Plaspanel is a versatile product that can be cut, routed, drilled, welded and mechanically fixed with standard tools. It is waterproof so will not rot, swell, delaminate, distort or absorb moisture.
The sheets are virtually maintenance free as they are rustproof and resistant to chemicals, bacteria and mould. Plaspanel is coloured throughout and every panel is a standard 2440 x 1220millimetres and comes in a variety of thicknesses from 9 to 32millimetres.
Plaspanel is manufactured from recycled post-consumer waste in high-density polyethylene (HDPE), using closed loop recycling practices. Plaspanel is both recycled and recyclable reinforcing its suitabilityfor the Greehouse project.
Joost has used Plaspanel in a number of projects and applications as lightweight sheets are durable and multipurpose ideal for use as furniture, cladding, cabinetry, signage, playground equipment and even in agricultural and marine applications.
