Boral Roofing announces the launch of its inaugural design award, A Different Pitch, to coincide with World Architecture Day on 3 October.
The Boral Roofing A Different Pitch Design Award is a national competition to promote innovative conceptual roof designs and projects, which explore the creative construction possibilities of Boral’s flat profile Terracotta Shingle or Flat Concrete roof tiles.
“As the single largest surface area of most dwellings, the roof is integral to bringing your vision to life,” Boral Roofing divisional general manage Brett Sargeant says.
“We are challenging Australian building designers and architects to showcase their talent by exploring innovative expressions of roof design using tiles.”
The A Different Pitch Award was created in support of the demand for flat profile roof tiles and will help introduce the industry to the greater design possibilities of the Terracotta Shingle, with a pitch as low as 15 degrees.
“It’s an opportunity to change outdated perceptions and encourage real contemporary alternatives in roofing for residential housing design.”
Short-listed submissions for the Award will be selected from conceptual drawings received between now and 31 July 2006. These will be presented to a panel of industry experts for judging.
Each short-listed architect or designer will present their entry at the Awards night, with the winner receiving a trip to the Venice Architecture Biennale in September 2006.
The Boral Roofing A Different Pitch Design Award is open to all architects and designers who are residents of NSW, Victoria, ACT and Queensland. Go to www.differentpitch.boral.com.au for a downloadable entry pack, terms and conditions and CAD resources including roof tile textures.
