Boral Roofing calls for entries in the third year of ‘A Different Pitch’

The 2008 Boral Roofing Design Award

Boral Roofing invites Australia’s architect and building design industry to bring their vision to life as its Design Award, A Different Pitch, is launched for the third successful year.

“This Award was created to promote innovative conceptual residential projects that showcase the talents and expertise of Australian architects, and to encourage higher standards in roof design,” said National General Manager of Boral Roofing, Brett Sargeant.

“Each year the judges are excited by the calibre of the submissions, which explore the creative construction possibilities of Boral’s flat profile Terracotta Shingle and Flat Concrete tiles,” Brett said.

In separate Awards for professionals and students, Boral Roofing invites residents of New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and Queensland to submit a design for a new family home with a floor area of 150sqm according to a site plan in the Entry Pack.

For the first time, this year participants are required to enter their submission in one of two construction cost categories: $350,000 or under; and between $500,000 and $1,000,000.

The jury will look for entries demonstrating sustainable, innovative and buildable design as well as entries exploring the attributes of Boral’s Terracotta Shingle and Flat Concrete tile, including the new Contour profile, such as the 15 degree pitch they allow.

“It’s an opportunity to challenge outdated perceptions and encourage real contemporary alternatives in roofing for residential housing design,” said Brett.

Entries close on 27 October 2008 and will be judged by an esteemed panel of industry commentators which includes Adam Harrow, Stephen Crafti and Nick Drougas.

The professional winner of each construction cost category will receive $7,500 in cash plus Boral roof tile product to the equivalent value to build their design. The student prize is $2000 in cash.
