A new HIA GreenSmart village has opened at Springfield Lakes in Queensland, Australia’s largest master-planned community. The village comprises three homes that were designed, constructed and operate with minimal environmental impact.
The homes all use lightweight construction techniques - including framing made from Zincalume steel from BlueScope Steel - to reduce impact on the site. Roofing is made from Colorbond steel.
“We use steel because it is straighter and lighter than alternatives, termite-resistant and recyclable,” says Kelly Grimley, development manager at Civic Steel Homes which built the homes at Springfield Lakes. “The GreenSmart initiative is in line with our focus on providing energy efficient smart housing throughout Queensland.”
The three environmentally-friendly showcase homes incorporate the best possible environmental practice in three priority areas - reducing waste, improving energy efficiency and improving overall environmental performance on housing construction sites.
