BOC has launched the environmentally friendly, natural refrigerant R744, into the Australian marketplace. R744 is carbon dioxide (CO2) used as a refrigerant and is a non-ozone depleting, non global warming, non flammable, all natural refrigerant gas.
Caroline Rham, BOC’s Product Manager of Refrigerant Gases said that developing and encouraging the use of natural refrigerants which are safe, efficient and sustainable are at the forefront of BOC’s environmentally friendly refrigerant solutions.
R744 refrigerant gas is non-flammable and low in toxicity. R744 refrigerant gas has zero ozone depleting potential, negligible global warming potential and excellent thermodynamic properties. R744 refrigerant gas does not carry any refrigerant taxes, meaning it will not be phased out and is readily available.
CO2 was first used as a refrigerant in the 19th century but by the 1950’s, its use had decreased because of the development of freons. However, due to its low environmental impact, CO2 is regaining popularity with refrigeration system designers as an alternative to fluorocarbons.
R744 refrigerant gas from BOC is a high purity gas with a guaranteed very low moisture of less than 10 parts per million specifically developed for refrigeration systems. Moisture is of key importance in refrigeration systems because it can cause ice formation and corrosion in steel pipe work. Standard grade CO2 used in food processing or welding applications is not suitable for refrigeration because of its high moisture content.
BOC R744 refrigerant gas is currently available in GE size (31kg) cylinder with liquid withdrawal. The cylinders have a green shoulder with a purple band to differentiate them from other grades and represent the distinctive environmental and high quality benefits of BOC R744 refrigerant gas.
For large volumes, BOC can supply MAN15 pack liquid R744 with a capacity of 465kg.
