Australian Disabled Access Consultants  were recently invited by Bargo Colonial Cottages to provide a fee proposal for disabled access building design assessment for a proposed Disabled Learning Centre/special needs school in Austral.

The disabled access assessment scope of work offered to assess the compliance with Liverpool Development Control Plan 2008, Australian Standards AS1428.1-2009, AS1428.2-1992, AS1428.3-1992, AS1428.4.1-2009 and AS2890.6-2009, and Part D3 of the Building Code of Australia disabled access, wheelchair access and parking guidelines.

The project designer, Bargo Colonial Cottages designed the Disabled Learning Centre/special needs school to provide disabled access and wheelchair access for:

  • Continuous safe paths of travel within the building 
  • Building entry doorway circulation spaces and hardware 
  • Wheelchair passing bays 
  • Accessible toilets and combined sanitary facilities 
  • Floor-ceiling heights along all movement pathways 
  • Kitchen design layout and furniture fit-out 
  • Door and window glazing 
  • Tactile ground surface indicators 
  • Slip resistant surface paving and floor surfaces 
  • Fire egress route and waiting space for people with disabilities 
  • Audible warning systems and visual warning systems 
  • Inbuilt hearing augmentation amplification systems 
  • Emergency evacuation plan 
  • Light switches and general power points 
  • Taps 
  • Signage 
  • Interior lighting 
  • Accessible parking space, parking area layout and safe paths of travel; and
  • Outdoor recreation areas
The scope of work carried out by Australian Disabled Access Consultants will involve:
  1. Design assistance by site meetings to inspect existing site conditions and provide disability access design advice for compliance with Liverpool Development Control Plan 2008, Australian Standards AS1428.1-2009, AS1428.2-1992, AS1428.3-1992, AS1428.4.1-2009 and AS2890.6-2009, and Part D3 of the Building Code of Australia until the design has been finalised
  2. AssessING the final drawings and prepare a Disability Access Assessment Report to assess and certify guidelines compliance
