The Australasian Institute of Surface Finishing (AISF) is a not-for-profit association that aims to represent powder coaters, electroplaters and the surface finishing industry in which they operate.

The association’s sole objective underlies much of its work, and is as follows:

“To ensure that our members are equipped with the skills to strive for best practice principles and to deal with important issues impacting the surface finishing industry.”

Members are involved in all aspects of the surface finishing industry, and include powder coaters and electroplaters as well as manufacturers, suppliers and importers of the products that these contractors require.

The association offers its members a range of educational and training courses and encourages professional skill development. These courses cater to all skill sets, and include

  • An introduction to powder coating course
  • A basic electroplating course
  • Intermediate management courses
A glossy magazine aplty labelled Surface Finishing is produced by the association in order to ensure its members are well informed. The magazine contains event information, details regarding developments and news occuring within the surface finishing industry, engaging articles and any other relevant information.

The association encourages its members to conduct themselves professionally and appropriately, and to uphold the Australian Standards designed specifically for the surface finishing industry.

When important issues pertaining to the surface finishing industry arise, such as those relating to policy and legislative changes, the association plays an important role in representing its members to government and regulatory bodies. This helps to ensure that needs and interests of members are considered.
