Laurentian University, a mid-sized school with over 9,000 students and one of the only two bilingual universities in Canada, faced an increasingly complex challenge when trying to maximise the working desk space in their multiple student computer labs throughout the campus.
One major problem was how to reduce the amount of computer equipment on each desk in the computer labs so that students would have more room to work. In addition, the university was searching for ergonomically friendly and highly secure space saving products that would also prevent the possibility of theft in the labs.
Atdec , specialists in visual display mounting solutions, were able to meet the challenges of Laurentian University by providing over 700 of their high-end POS Multi LCD computer monitor mounts. The POS Multi is a steel post specifically designed to mount LCD monitors ranging in size from 12” to 24”. It is ideal for use in any space-constricted location where multiple monitors need to be positioned in an ergonomically-friendly and secure manner.
Gerry Gareau, Manager, Micro Computer Centre for Laurentian University has said that the desks in their computer labs are getting smaller and they are trying to fit as many computers as possible into each space. Laurentian University have found that utilising LCD monitors with their original stand was taking up too much space on each desk, leaving students with less room to work. In addition, the original monitor stands were also not very ergonomically-friendly for users.
As part of the process to find the ideal solution to their monitor mounting challenge, Laurentian University researched and investigated many different visual display mounting companies and determined that Atdec was the suitable company to meet their requirements.
Gareau states that the Atdec POS Multi provided the ultimate space saving solution to maximise the working space in each desk area, giving students more room for their books and other supplies. It is an attractive mounting device that also provides a high level of ergonomic functionality for their students. It allows each monitor to be rotated 90°, 180°, 270° or 355° and features +/-40° angular adjustment, making it perfect for several students to clearly and comfortably view the monitor at the same time.
Gareau also states that Laurentian University also selected the Atdec POS Multi based on its high level of security. Universities, like any public space, can be a major target of theft and so they needed a secure mounting product that would prevent the possible theft of the LCD computer monitors.
The Atdec POS Multi is constructed with a strong steel structure incorporating a clever screw concealment cover on top of the mounting screws that are drilled into a desk. In addition, the POS Multi design includes the option to use the pre-drilled security holes for ‘under work surface’ attachment, thereby increasing the security of the unit.
There is also a convenient location to attach a monitor security system such as a wire cable locking device. These features all work together to prevent the possible theft of the monitor.
In addition to space savings, ergonomic functionality and a high level of security, Gareau has said that Laurentian University needed an LCD monitor mount that was also attractive and provided a way to limit the amount of cables in each student work station. The POS Multi offers a clean, modern look with an advanced internal cable management system where unsightly cables are routed through the post via a cable port located directly behind the monitor screen.
