Energy raters can use the reflectance data of Energy Star Infrared Heat Reflective in their software to achieve the green star ratings.
Heat reflective coatings with low absorbent values which are supported by test data, as recognised by authorities such as the BCA, can be used in verification software such as Energy Plus (commercial properties) or Accurate ( domestic properties) and BARES Pro.
Astec Paints Australasia ’s Energy Star range of Heat Reflective paints and textures with their low solar absorbency values comply with section J of The BCA as detailed by Rod Johnston’s Electronic Blue print report.
Specifiers can nominate any one of the 44 heat reflective colours including dark colours with the confidence that each colour has the reflectance data and testing results necessary to achieve the documented results.
Energy raters are using this data in verification software with proven results such as:
- reduction in glass window thickness of that originally specified
- reduced or nil mass insulation requirement in both domestic and commercial buildings (zone 1 and 2)
The benefits of buildings with lower outside surface temperatures to the environment are well documented. If the outside walls and roof are cooler, this will lower energy consumption and reduced carbon dioxides are the positive outcome.
