Gungahlin College features AWS aluminium window and door systems
The Elevate range of aluminium window and door systems from Architectural Window Systems was used for the glazing work at Gungahlin College in Canberra to achieve thermal performance and ventilation goals.

Many classrooms across Australia are badly designed resulting in students and teachers having very little access to daylight or good indoor air quality. Gungahlin College, a $72.7 million education facility in Canberra’s north however, sets a new benchmark in green schools with several features incorporated into the design to achieve an environment-friendly tag.

Glazing was used effectively all over the building, and represented a close collaboration between the architects, the sustainability consultant and Taylors Window Supplies.

Glazing was optimised throughout the college using the vast array of AWS Elevate aluminium window and door systems with an aim to connect the interior of the college with the outside world, while balancing the requirements of effective thermal performance and natural ventilation. Taylors also ensured all glazing was Section J compliant.

With its clever use of glazing, optimal solar orientation and water storage, an underground thermal labyrinth for natural heating and cooling, thermal chimneys and low water-use landscaping, Gungahlin College has set the standard for years to come.
