Thinking outside the square
Mosaic tiles are becoming the jewel in the crown of bathroom finishes. Little gems of colour, light and translucency they can offer a wealth of versatility and sheer design scope at a wide range of price points.
Leading tile specialist Amber reports the surge in interest in mosaics has coincided with a vast influx in the number of styles and finishes now available. The traditional 20mm square mosaics are available in practically any colour and texture imaginable - from clear glass shot through with gold or silver to matt ceramics or tumbled marble. However, the real news is the plethora of different shapes and sizes that now complement the conventional mosaic.
The rule is - don’t think inside the square when it comes to mosaics! They are now available in rectangles and circles, in a variety of sizes and a vast array of colours and finishes.
One look that has attracted a major following is the clear glass mosaic with a colour bonded to the back. These bring a beautiful translucency and depth of colour to a wall and again are available in a brilliant range of colours. They team well with the more conventional matt ceramic mosaic and also create an eyecatching feature when used with larger format wall tiles. Current best sellers in this range are the soft glass greens and turquoises plus highlights such as Schiaparelli pink and sunset orange.
